Carlos Slim Helu Aglamaz is a Mexican businessman born 28 January 1940 in Mexico City.
He has been counted amongst the world’s richest men for years, and he is currently ranked as the world’s richest as of 2013. He controls three major Mexican telecommunications company Telmex, Telcel and América Móvil.
Mr. Slim has through América Móvil built up the largest mobile operator in the U.S., with customers in many parts of Latin America.
At the beginning of 2008, Carlos Slim was named the world’s second richest, only surpassed by Warren Buffett, according to the financial Forbes magazine. Mr. Slim’s fortune was back then estimated at 60 billion U.S. dollars, compared with Buffett’s wealth, 62 billion dollars and Bill Gates’ net worth of 58 billion dollars. He has now gone past the two by a clear margin.
In 2011, Slim’s fortune estimated at 74 billion dollars, compared to Gates’ and Buffett 56 and 50.
