Coffee shop and its profit.


Starting a small coffee shop business isn’t as difficult as some might think. According to my good friend Nicolas, who owns three coffee shops and two milkshake bars in Norway, coffee shops owners make 3 to 4 times the amount of money they use to make a cup of coffee for their customers.

Nicolas gave me the rights to publish detailed information about how much he makes on the different coffee types he sells at his shops. Read on and learn.


Orange Dream (2 glasses)

  • 2 dl milk
  • 6 tablespoons of chocolate sauce
  • 2 dl strong coffee or espresso
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoons of orange zest

Mix milk, chocolate, coffee, cinnamon and orange zest in a saucepan and heat.  Strain out the orange zest if desired.
Serve with whipped cream on top.

Chocolate milk with coriander (2 glasses)

  • 4 dl milk
  • 2 teaspoons of ground dried coriander
  • 8 tablespoons of chocolate sauce
  • 8 teaspoons of grated chocolate

Pour the chocolate sauce on the inside of the glass. Heat up the milk, add the coriander and pour the coriander milk in the glass. Garnish it with sprinkle of grated chocolate.

Chocolate Mint (2 glasses)

  • 1 ½ dl chocolate sauce
  • 2 dl strong espresso
  • 2 dl boiling hot milk
  • 3 pieces of mint chocolate (for example After Eight)


  • ½ dl whipped cream
  • 2 tablespoons of sprinkled chocolate

Melt the chocolate in the boiling hot milk. Pour chocolate sauce on the inside of the glass.
Pour the espresso and milk in the glass. Top with the whipped cream and sprinkles with chocolate.

Orange Cinnamon Drink (2 glasses)

  • 4 dl milk
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 6 tablespoons of freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar

Heat the milk and add the spices and orange juice. Stir it up and add some sugar to sweeten up things. Serve with grated orange peel on top.

Fluffy Eggnog (2 glasses)

  • 4 dl milk
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • ¾ dl sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • Grated nutmeg

Whisk together milk, egg yolks, sugar, vanilla extract and cinnamon in a saucepan. Heat it up while whisking constantly until it thickens and the eggnog is just below boiling point. Pour the content into refractory glass. Put some grated nutmeg on top and serve.

Caramel Milk (2 glasses)

  • 4 dl milk
  • 2-3 tablespoons of caramel sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • Fresh basil

Boil the milk and add caramel sauce and honey. Pour it into refractory glass and add small leaves of basil.

According to Nicolas himself, he makes up to $10,000 a month just by selling something simple as coffee. He adds that location and a customer friendly staff is the key to his success.
